Open Space accepts proposals by email (preferred) and regular mail on an ongoing basis. The interdisciplinary Program Committee meets monthly to review proposals. All proposals are acknowledged upon receipt and, later, regarding a decision.  We try to respond to proposals quickly, but we sometimes take a few months to make a decision.

Curatorial Statement: Open Space continues to focus on projects that investigate interdisciplinarity, participatory projects, and how communities and individuals support, react to, and generate contemporary art projects. Open Space is committed to supporting contemporary Indigenous curation, programming, and methodologies. For some of our current curatorial interests, please note the Featured section of our website.

Open Space reviews proposals in the visual arts (exhibitions, curatorial projects, installations, performances, etc.), new music (concerts, performances, sound installations, workshops, off site projects), media arts, audio and sound, screenings, and traditional media. We accept proposals from artists, curators, collectives, and ensembles, of all cultures, generations, and disciplinary focus. Open Space also periodically arranges residencies (production, presentation, or thematic). Please do not feel confined by these descriptions; we welcome any thoughtful contemporary proposals.

Location: Victoria is located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island. It is the provincial capital, and Open Space is located in the heart of the business and tourism area. There are five art schools in the Capital Regional District. Open Space gratefully acknowledges that we reside on the unceded territories of the Lekwungen speaking peoples, the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations, and traditional Coast Salish Territories.

Facilities: Open Space has a large programming space (approximately 9m x 24m or 30ft x 78ft) and is located on the second floor, limiting access as well as weight and scale of projects and incoming crates. Please explore the Archive section of our website to get an impression of the flexibility of the space.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
